A professional paint finish is built long before the final coat goes on. Proper washing, surface prep, repairs, caulking, priming, and application all work together to create a clean, even, long-lasting result. When these steps are skipped, patches show, paint flashes, and the job looks unfinished.
Before any prep or paint begins, surfaces are cleaned to remove dust, residue, loose material, and contaminants that can affect adhesion. For exterior areas, this may include pressure washing or hand washing. For interior areas, surfaces are cleaned and prepared around patched openings and work zones to create a solid base for the next steps.
This is where the quality of the final result is won or lost. Loose paint is scraped, transitions are sanded, gaps and joints are caulked, and damaged areas are repaired. On exterior work, that can also include stucco patching or replacing rotted or damaged trim/wood where needed. Repaired and bare areas are then properly primed to prevent peeling, uneven absorption, and visible patch marks after paint is applied.
Once surfaces are properly cleaned, repaired, and primed, finish paint is applied. A two-coat system is the standard approach for consistent color and longevity. Depending on the surface and scope, the application may involve spray, roller, or back-roll methods to help achieve a clean, even finish that blends with the rest of the home.
